Welcome to my underwater home. This is my personal space so I can keep track of all of my many ideas, memories, projects, lists, and so on. Born and raised in San Jose, California, my aim in life is to become the person I truly admire. In pursuit of that goal, I study the art of communication design, interaction design, and knowledge management to communicate to the public my own sense of humanity.

Dearest Sammie, daughter yet unborn,

My birthday this past weekend. I spent the weekend at Monterrey with UVSA Executive Board to talk about things to get everyone on the same page with the UVSA sphere of understanding. Your papa still dreams of your wedding day at the most exquisite Vietnamese American community space, one you would fight to have your happiest day being held there, but of course you don't really have to, since I will priority access on your behalf, hahaha.

I dreamt about a play, about a Tyrant King who sent his army out to slaughter con lân, extracting a precious part of these animals that the king believes helps grant him immortality. A village who revere these creatures were massacred for obstruction. Only 3 survivors made it out: a master monk, a little boy, and a baby lân. For years the 3 wandered the ravaged landscape for nearly a decade, avoiding the king's army, for the king cared not of his people, but his ever-consuming desire for immortality. As the boy was of age, the master monk felt it was ready to guide him to the land of fairies to seek his destiny. A fairy, who felt for the plight of what the young man had to go through, fell in love with his burning spirit of righteousness, stole the Secrets of Heaven to tell him his future. As a result, she became blind, for stealing the Secrets of Heaven was considered a sin. His future, she said, was that he would rise up to be the Lord of Lâns and revolt against the Tyrant King. The path, however, was not easy, but as long as he saw the cherry blossoms bloom each spring, he was on the right path. Before the 3 set off, the fairy kissed the master monk and lân on their foreheads for luck. The young man kissed the beautiful fairy, his heart stirred at the sacrifice she gave. Somehow, through their kiss, the two were connected through their minds and were able to communicate without uttering a word. Although she could not see his physical appearance, she was able to smile from being able to see his spiritual beauty.

I suppose I'll have to end my dream there for now.

In order for a beautiful community space to be built, I need an endowment. To fund the endowment, I would need 52 multimillionaires. And so I start with selecting 12 disciples, ones whose aspirations are larger than life and whose heart is set on moving and shaking the world. I've selected my first three, all aspiring empire-builders: Jessica Do in the beauty industry, Huong Nguyen in the fashion industry, and Lily Tran in the music entertainment industry. Bao's 52 begins from there.

v. 1. To catch a cold, to be ill (because of a sudden change in the weather, too much sun, etc.); bị cảm nhẹ to catch a slight cold; bị cảm lạnh to catch a chill; bị cảm nắng to get a sunstroke. 2. To feel; cảm thấy đau ở tay to feel a pain in one's arm; ở đây cũng cảm thấy thoải mái như ở nhà to feel comfortable here as at home. 3. To be moved, to be affected; điệu hát làm cảm được người nghe the tune moved the audience.

Cảm is an anthology project to collect written and visual works that convey the range of human emotions. The list of feelings will be drawn from the Feelings Inventory produced by The Center for Nonviolent Communication, which lists about 300 different feelings, though we will be using the Vietnamese vocabulary rather than English (think of this as a glorified flash card).

The books will be produced with Blurb.

We are looking for works by Vietnamese American authors, and we would require express permission from the author to publish his/her work.

I had a pleasant dream that there was a contest to see the best trailer attachment for a big rig, and that I was a judge. I chose the one that unfolded into a clubbing dance floor. The dance floor was a putting green; when it opened, it was like a Maui country club with palm trees. There was a dance crew waiting inside wearing silver suits or silver bikini-top skirts dancing to something like an upbeat boogie nights kind of music. Somehow one of the walls elevated into a balcony decorated with Mondrian-style wall. It was pretty weird but cool.
